Yellow alert in South Bengal: Heatwave grips West Bengal

West Bengal, including its capital Kolkata, continues to grapple with scorching temperatures, as the Meteorological Department predicts a further surge in heat levels over the weekend. In Kolkata, the minimum temperature soared to 29.3 degrees Celsius, three degrees above normal, while the maximum temperature peaked at 39.7 degrees Celsius, four degrees above normal, according to a statement from the regional headquarters of the Meteorological Department in Alipore.

The heatwave extends across various parts of the state, including Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, Purulia, and Bankura, with temperatures ranging between 32 to 42 degrees Celsius. South Bengal has been placed under a yellow alert for heatwave conditions, exacerbating discomfort for residents. In North Bengal districts like Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, and Kalimpong, temperatures hover between 35 to 40 degrees Celsius, further intensifying the ordeal for locals. The Meteorological Department warns of an anticipated rise in temperatures in the coming week, adding to the heatwave's severity.
